Cuaresma 2016
Santa Ana, Antigua, Guatemala
As I peruse my blog posts, I see that the last one was of my favorite festival, day of the dead and the big kites. The one before was from last year's Santa Ana Procession. So the following are pictures of this year's procession. The alfombras were again dense and colorful but you can judge for yourself.
Building the Alfombras (alfombra is rug in Spanish)
Typical Alfombras many with a religious bent
Some are a bit different, either in shape or materials used.
Birds were big this year for some reason
My favorite, ode to vegetables
This was the year of misericordia, mercy or clemency. Might be a good idea considering the President and Vice President are currently in jail for corruption.
Of course, there is one alfombra for world peace...
But in the end they all end up looking like this....
